Woke up this morning and felt really old. The trip has been amazing, and we’ve had a ton of fun, but I’m ready to go home. Miss my big king bed, and most of all, my fur babies! They will probably be snooty and standoffish until they feel they’ve punished us enough for going away. ![]()
We hopped on the 139 bus at Selfridges this morning, and rode it all the way to Abbey Road. The whole area is a death-defying experience. It’s a zebra crossing of a VERY busy street, and the number of tourists trying to re-create the walk across like the Beatles did in 1969 is astonishing. For the most part, the residents/drivers are patient and not trying to pick us off like ducks in a shooting range. One couple, who obviously think very far into the future, were dressed up as Christmas Elves, doing their Holiday Card artwork. We both got a photo and bought some magnets at the Abbey Road shop then got on the bus again going the other way to Piccadilly Circus.
Wandering about, we could really feel the city ramping up for next week’s inauguration. Or whatever it’s called.
Do you think they can tell how I feel from that photo? ![]()
Third fish n chips of the trip, at the Duke of Argyll pub. We were very tired, and a bit dehydrated as well from the all-day tour yesterday. An hour there and some food and drink and all was well again.
Trusty google maps showed us the way to Fortnum & Mason. I didn’t trust myself to do anything other than the first floor, so Sean grabbed a trolley and we were off. I tried to keep it to dry goods so we wouldn’t have to pack it in the checked bags, but the jams and condiments were too tempting. I bought a lobster F&M carrier bag and we can do that on the plane. Excited to bring all the yummies home and remember the trip while enjoying them.
Headed back to the hotel to rest, then to Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Pub to meet Kelly and her partner Gerald. They came from Reading on the train to spend the evening with us. Kelly is a relative through my mum’s side and I was so glad to meet her in person after the what’s app convos we’ve been doing.
The pub is really old, and has spaces everywhere – the cellar is where we were and there were two lower levels below that! I loved it. If you are in London you should try to get there and just look around. It’s fascinating.
A few hours later we were all winding down, and so said goodnight, with a promise to keep in touch. Back to the hotel for a nightcap and a chicken tikka nibbly, and to bed.
Travel day back to Paris tomorrow, and then flying home the next day.
